Our precautions remain in place and we continue to adhere strict to common sense and the Government guidelines. After this season finishes we will withdraw temperature checks and no masks need be worn outdoors but will remain when in The Barn until guidelines change. We won’t fall at what we hope will be the final hurdle.
A continuing casualty of the regulations is Puppy Socialisation which will not resume un- til the sanctions on social distancing are lifted.
We will be in the Paddock wherever possible.
How are we doing?
The return season has shown a strong return by members and new members alike. Puppy numbers have been tremendous and with all the scare stories about we are de- lighted that our members at are committing fully to their new charges as lockdown re- cedes.
The recent introduction of Puppy Agility courses and a greater intake into
Agility Beginners has been met by the provision of more courses. Ann joining us as an Agility trainer has helped greatly with that. We will be running three Beginners Agility Courses as well as Puppy Agility in the Summer Term and that means more dogs coming through to our ongoing classes. This is great but poses its own problems. We are acutely aware that groups bond within classes and wish to stay together and we do our best to accommodate that. To that end, we notified classes available to existing clients before making a general notification of availability and that seems to have largely worked. To anyone who misses their first choice, please talk to us. We do recognise that we may have to adopt a better system in future as our agility numbers continue to rise.
Our new Puppy Improvers have been fully booked and progress really well and continue to be well received. These are four week top up courses for those who want to build upon Puppy Foundation and have become a permanent offering in our course structure.
The return of Animal Magic Obedience Bronze is an opportunity for those who wish to push on with obedience beyond foundation level. Those who undertake the course will be offered the chance to go on to Silver and Gold standards in future. These courses corres- pond to the appropriate Kennel Club standards.
Obedience For Walks Improvers: Elaines’s Thursday course offers a chance for gradu- ates of Obedience For Walks to take their training out into the wide world with a trainer in tow. It could be a walk on the beach, in woods or in town. These four week courses were started by us at a time when lockdowns, personal shielding and isolation made the running more difficult than it need have been but we persevere and thank those who stuck with us over this period. OFWI continues in the Summer Season and is available to book now. We are committed to the idea that this ‘real world’ training adds real value.
New Agility tunnels have been purchased and a new ‘A’ frame is on its way, new jumps will follow as we gradually upgrade our equipment.
All fingers and toes crossed that the dust will settle on The Pandemic and we can progress with further Club developments:
Under consideration: Dog day care, Dog walking, Occasional social events (when al- lowed), Dog Photograpy, Agility practice sessions out of class and the return to eight week Agility Seasons so that we may synchronise with Obedience courses and further spread the cost throughout the year. Please respond if you have any thoughts on any of these ideas. Always remember that this is your club, we listen to you and every opinion counts.
To those who are emerging from shielding, either themselves or loved ones, welcome back, your were missed. To those who have completed a course, please bear in mind that we offer something for life through agility and ongoing training, to those who continue to support us through interesting times; well THANKS, really! Bring on that normality!
A personal note from your Secretary : through administering our Club I get to meet and become friends with, be it in writing, by phone or occasionally in person, when my key- board shackles are released, some great people, it isn’t just about the dogs, you know!. I know that I speak for all of the trainers too when I say thank you for the friendship, warmth and camaraderie and particularly so in difficult times. If you have left us… Come
back! If you are leaving us at the end of this season of courses….. Don’t! 😂 Bill.
