Help! My Pet is Home Alone
It seems unthinkable – but what would you do if you were in an accident and unable to tell anyone that your dog was home alone? Emergencies are unpredictable, so it’s always best to be prepared.
New this term for club members is the ‘My Pet is Home Alone card’, its credit card sized so perfect for popping into your purse or wallet and allows you to record the details of who to contact in an emergency. In the past we were encouraged to store ‘ICE’ in case of emergency into our mobile phones, but as technology has progressed with more sophisticated locking on them, this makes it impossible for the emergency services to find your emergency contact.
The cards allow you to record the contact name and number of your emergency contact and also the contact details for your vet. It’s a good idea to plan ahead, discuss with your emergency contact what arrangements you’d like making for the care of your pet, inform them if they need medication or special care. It’s also wise to make arrangements for your pet in your will, just to give you peace of mind that they’ll be taken care of as per your wishes should the worst happen.
