Spring has finally sprung and we can put the beast from the east firmly behind us. The year started tragically with reports of dog fatalities after they’d eaten toxic sealife that had washed up on the beaches. Then came the Palm oil, again washed up and toxic. As dog owners what we need to learn from this is that whether you’re walking on the coast or countryside, allowing your dog to scavenge is dangerous. This is why we teach the ‘leave it’ command in all of our obedience classes, quite simply it could save your dogs’ life.
Now that spring is here we, as dog owners need to be responsible and keep our dogs under strict, close control around livestock. After a long and wet winter, the cattle are newly released into the fields and could be feeling frisky and the ewes may have newborn lambs. If you do have to pass livestock on your walk then please keep your dog on a lead, if you can find an alternative route then even better.
Remember that the law says if your dog chases or attacks livestock
- It’s a criminal offence
- You can be sued for damages
- A farmer can shoot your dog as a last resort
- You can be fined by the courts and your dog put to sleep
At Animal Magic we have a wide range of classes to suit all abilities, for those at the beginning of their dogs training to those wishing to refresh their skills. Or maybe you just want to strengthen the bond with your dog by spending some quality time together. You can make new friends on our explorer walks which raise much needed funds donated to Norfolk Strays or get a little more active with agility and flyball. There’s something for everyone and most importantly it’s all fun.
Our new term starts on 4th June, book now to reserve your place.
