What not to feed your dog at Christmas
Most of us are aware that chocolate, grapes and their derivatives, garlic and onions are poisonous for our dogs but you may be surprised to know that several other Christmas goodies can have harmful effects. These include:
Macadamia nuts, these are extremely toxic and will cause the dog to vomit and have an elevated heartrate.
Nutmeg can cause dogs to suffer from tremors seizures and damage the nervous system.
Avocados may seem a good alternative to bananas for Kong stuffing But a toxin they contain can damage the heart and lungs of our dogs.
High levels of fat can lead to inflammation of the pancreas so it is better to limit consumption.
Alcohol, nobody would willingly give their dog alcohol but some dogs will drink it if it is left lying around, and even small amounts can kill a pet.
Please check with your vet before the holidays as to what their emergency and out of hours arrangements are as not all vets provide cover and you may have to travel miles to another practice.
