Keep your dogs away from wild barley grass seeds.
It’s that time of year again! Wild barley seeds are everywhere at the moment and cause massive problems to all dogs but especially spaniels!
These seeds are barbed which means that once they pierce the skin they do not come back out of the skin naturally. So the best plan of action is to avoid areas where wild barley grows or provide your dog with a snood for its ears.
At this time of year, it’s really important to check your dogs after every walk. Common places to find them are in the armpits, on the chest, ears and in between the toes. If your dog starts to frantically shake its head then it could have one lodged in the ear and this means an immediate visit to he vet before it gets to the ear drum.
